Casey Johnston created the plan that got me into lifting and I cannot recommend it enough: https://www.caseyjohnston.website/my-work/liftoff-couch-to-barbell Nowadays I run a plan called GZCLP that is still very friendly for beginner/intermediate lifters: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/s/2WZ9yeNhVt

Also—I just learned the person who created this has a substack. Thanks to @Casey Johnston!

I just wanted to jump in and say how much I enjoyed Ultranatural! I ordered it from my local bookstore in Pittsburgh so it took a good few weeks to get to me, but as soon as it was in my greedy hands I gobbled it up. It kept me company on two long plane rides to visit my parents and (appropriately) several nights curled up in my childhood bedroom. Thank you Candice!

Awww thanks for telling me that! I love thinking of it in the childhood bedroom portal.

Love this essay. Love Tressie McMillan Cottom.

This essay really made me think about how the body as capacity is also in action while women do said emotional labor. As someone with small kids my body’s capacity is directly related to the type of care I can provide for my children. Keeping women’s body as object also has downstream effects on children or communities we care for.

Lots to think about here! You’ve made me want to start lifting heavy. I have been thinking a lot of wanting to be strong and healthy over thin and sick.

This discussion of bodies and work and what we mean when we say we say those things about women is extremely well done.
